Security Gear

It’s funny, but I know several people who have worked in security. First there was one of my best friends in college, who was in the Army Reserves — he worked a night security job for a while during college, though he actually did a lot of homework and writing while he was at that job (one of the benefits of a night job). Then there was my brother in law, who was a cop when I first met him, and worked several part time security contract jobs on the side for extra money.
There’s all kinds of security gear that can go with these jobs. For instance, everyone knows about the shoulder microphones that police officers and security personnel wear. And Hollywood has popularized the image of the FBI agent with the clear coiled wire and security earpiece. Listen only earpieces are also frequently used equipment.
What isn’t so widely known is how uncomfortable this equipment can be. My brother in law hated that the most — how heavy the Kevlar vest, gun belt, and everything else could be. And my friend has also told me plenty of stories of just how uncomfortable all the communications equipment can be.
I guess that puts my discomfort with my phone’s hands free kit into perspective, doesn’t it…
