Converting Old Video

One of the things that we have been doing lately is going through my grandfather’s old stuff. He passed away just two months ago, but it has taken a lot of time for us to deal with the grief and be able to sit and sort through his stuff.
You see, my grandfather was a film and video cameraman for many years, and his attic is full of old film reels. I can remember as a child sitting in his basement watching the movies that he had made and I had dreamed that I would work in film someday.
Though I never attained that dream, it is still comforting to reminisce of the days watching those movies. Sadly, grandpa’s movie projector is broken, so in order to watch anything that he had made, we are going to have to convert the video.
We found a place in town that can convert old Super 8 film, and surprisingly, their prices are very reasonable. I am not the only one in the family that wants a copy, and this way, his movies can preserved forever on DVD.
I guess in some ways by preserving his creations, we preserve a bit of him, but I will still miss him.
