Romance in the Rockies

I met my husband in Banff, Alberta. Alberta is a Canadian territory that borders the Midwestern United States. Banff is located near the Rocky Mountain Range, and is well known for its skiing and tourism. I live in North Dakota, which, if you don’t know, doesn’t have any mountains or really much of anything else in it. Just huge, flat farms; the old prairie country. I won a Banff vacation package from a local radio giveaway, and so off I went. I spent a week in a rustic ski lodge along with a dozen other skiers. We’d come back in, one by one, from a day of sunshine and skiing, rosy from the cold air, breathing hard and smiling. The lodge specialized in mixing a drink called a Tom & Jerry. My name is Geri and there happened to be a man staying there named Tom, so we’d drink them by the fire, warming up, feeling cozy, and joking about it. After the trip was over we exchanged emails for a while and when he graduated from college he moved to North Dakota. Since then, we’ve tried more than a few Canada tour packages; there’s so much to see in Canada, and it’s all so unspoiled and real. We’ve been all over Canada now, from the Yukon to Montreal, and each one reminds us a bit of that first Banff ski vacation.
