Oh dear

So three months ago my boyfriend and I decided to take “the leap”.  Being commitment phobes, our “leap” was getting a puppy.  We went to the pound and picked up a stray; they were all so adorable, but the one that really caught our eye was this fairly small puppy that was a mixed breed with kind of scruffy fur, brown and white coat, and these cartoonishly large paws that I just fell in love with.

Apparently what the pound failed to mention to us was that he seems to be mixed with a St Bernard, and those big paws mean he’s going to grow to about 110 lbs.  I weigh 110lbs.  I thought I was getting this tiny little lapdog, and instead I’m getting a human that eats off the floor.  Do they have something like HGH in reverse to slow his growth?  I mean he’s cute right now, perfectly manageable at 47 pounds.  He still pulls a little bit hard on walks and stuff, and he burns through puppy kibble, but he’s manageable.  I just can’t imagine a dog that large.  My boyfriend grew up with Newfoundlands, and I suspect he may have known what we were getting into and didn’t feel the need to clue me in.  Bad boyfriend, bad!
