How to Reuse an Old Decoration

I have this candy cane colored rope light that I bought about 7 years ago, to use on my roof to spell out some sort of happy holiday word, but I’ve never really been able to use it.  First of all, I guess because it was made almost a decade ago, the light came off as yellowish, but worse, it was stiff and difficult to work with.  What’s more, even if I just tried to scallop it or else string it in a straight line, it wanted to twist and torque.  It was just too stiff and hard to do what I wanted it to do.

I know that today’s Christmas lights are a lot better than Christmas lights in the nineties.  I know I can do what I want with a new string of lights.  But my question is this:  does anyone out there have any neat ideas for what to do with my stiff old string of yellowish candy-cane rope light?

I hate to throw it out, and every year there are some really neat ideas out there for decorating for the holidays.  Any ideas for me?  I’m not even sure it will cooperate enough to wrap around one of my outdoor blue spruces in an artistically chaotic sort of way.  If anyone has any ideas for how to use these lights, I’d love to hear them—otherwise, into the ash can they will go!
