3 Reasons Why You Need a Cell Phone

Although it seems that everyone has mobile phones these days, there are still folks who are holding out on us, refusing to move into the cellular generation. If you are one of them, here are three reasons why you need a cell phone — even if it’s only a pay as you go type phone.
- For emergencies. Say your car breaks down on the side of the road late at night. You could be waiting for a long time for someone to pull over and help, and of course there is always the fear of who might come along, especially if you are a woman. Cell phones are great in these cases, because you can call for help yourself, whether that is a friend, parents, significant other, or a tow truck.
- For last minutes changes of plans. Another time a cell phone is useful is when you are supposed to meet someone but can’t make it, or you have to cancel a doctor’s appointment. Or say you get stuck in traffic on your way to work — with a cell phone you can let them know that you won’t be there in time for that important meeting they’ve been talking about all week.
- For work. If you own your own business or have a job that requires a lot of attention from you, a cell phone can be an invaluable — though sometimes regrettable — link to the office. As a small business owner, a business cell allows clients and employees to reach you at any time. Some offices may also provide their employees with a cell phone or require that they have one, so that they can get in touch with them in an emergency if needed.
No matter how reluctant you are to move into the technological age, there are actually some very good reasons to have a cell phone. Can you think of any other ways in which having a cell phone can make life easier for you?

I’ve had a cell phone for what feels like the past ten years. I don’t think it’s quite that long, but it has to be pretty close. Anyway, I can kind of see the benefit to not having a phone. There’s a kind of craziness to always being connected; it’s really hectic!
Yeah it’s crazy that some people still don’t have cell phones. Honestly, this isn’t like a boat that you need to jump on, it’s the inexorable movement of the earth beneath your feet. Keep up or get left behind!
I think the more complex list would be “Why WOULDN’T you get a cell phone”! It seems like there are thousands of reasons to get them, and not very many in favor of holding out; unless you’re like irrationally afraid of technology, or something.
I think any responsible parent has to have a cell phone, and because I want to be able to check on them I need my kids to have them too. Hey, so I’m spoiled, but I want to be able to get in touch with my kids instantly. Period.
I do see the value in waiting to get a cell phone, or having one that’s only for emergencies in your glove box or something; some of my favorite times ever are unplugging everything and going away for a week. It’s a bit of a shock to come back but it’s worth it to go.
While I’m very much into living greener and simpler, I agree that a cellphone is indispensible for the reasons you stated. Unlike my husband however, I don’t need the latest and greatest – just a simple $15 body from OfficeMax with a pre-paid plan so that I have the phone working in case I need it! Works just fine for me. By not getting caught up in the hype of having to have the latest new phone, I feel proud of myself for keeping cellphone carcasses out of land-fill!
