Window Surprise

One of my best friends and her boyfriend bought their first house a couple of months ago. It’s a 1950s ranch that is painted an ugly dark green color, but it’s pretty nice inside. They have hardwood floors, an updated kitchen, and lots of space, so I think they got a pretty good starter home. I especially love the picture window in the dining room (a fairly recent addition on the back of the house).
Unfortunately, we’ve had an extremely windy winter, and as a result they have discovered something none too satisfactory about their house: Their bedroom window makes horrific sounds when it is really windy. The house has those aluminum framed old single paned windows, and they aren’t installed securely anymore, so the wind gets underneath and makes a horrible screeching noise. So until the can afford window replacement, my friends have actually duct taped around the frame to keep the wind from getting through!
It’s really too bad that they are going to have to spend money on new windows so soon, but I’m sure in the end they’ll be glad they did. Even the picture window and the patio door will probably really benefit from being replaced. Just think of all they will save on heating costs next winter!
starter home, picture window, window replacement, patio door, save on heating costs
