You’re ready to move to a new location. Should you move to a major city, a small town or a suburb? One of the things that you’ll consider while you try to decide this is what the cost of living is in the area.
Some factors to take into consideration when comparing the cost of living in one place vs. another include:
- Housing costs. This is the first thing to look at since it will be your primary expense.
- Cost for utilities. Is it a lot more expensive to power your home in one area than another? Sometimes this is the case.
- Cost of transportation. How will you get around in each area? A long driving distance vs. a short walking area can make one place a lot cheaper to live than another.
- Cost of additional services. Compare the cost of a Phoenix storage unit to one that’s not too far away in Peoria. If the Peoria storage unit is a lot cheaper then this may be the place that’s generally less expensive to live.
- Cost of entertainment. How will you spend your time here? How much will that cost? San Francisco is pricier to live in than Fresno but it offers so many more free activities that it could be worth it.
