Hostess with the Mostess

Do any of my beloved readers know anything about hosting? It’s all so confusing. I mean, if I get free hosting, doesn’t that mean I have to let them advertise? If it’s not free, why is it so expensive, when I can get a free site? Then I have to pay someone to build the site, load the site, and develop the site. Why can’t I just host it on my computer? I really don’t understand. I mean I’m vaguely aware that it is an issue of bandwidth and some sort of thing to do with that, but if I only have roughly a hundred visitors ever, is that really an issue right now? If I do get a .net storefront, will they host it for free? God knows I’m paying them enough money. I mean, it’s comparatively little, but it’s a lot to me. And I am pretty sure that comes with an online shopping cart, since it seems that most ecommerce software does, but do I then have to pay more fees and monthly costs on top of that? Seriously, how much will it take to go into business for myself? Will I be able to pay my rent at the end?
