The Two Effects

The use of steroids causes two different effects. And while the use of steroids is commonly thought of as a taboo, that is certainly not always the case. Sure, it makes for good news stories when professional athletes get caught doping, but that is not what anabolic steroids are all about. Since all steroids are some form or derivative of testosterone though, they have two different effects on the body.

One of the two types of effects is labeled as androgenic. These are the ones that don’t get thought of as much, or are often times considered to be side effects. It is an androgenic effect when these drugs lower your voice. Pattern baldness is another one of these effects, as is a noticeable change in breast tissue (particularly in females). An increased libido is common as well as increased amount of aggressiveness. These are all typical male characteristics that are elevated by the drug’s use.

The other type of effect steroid users see is called anabolic. These are the effects that users are usually shooting for when they use these drugs. This is the increased use of protein combined with the decrease of body fat that the body stores. This results in a higher energy level, and of course the main focus of most steroid users: increased muscle mass.
