The Benefits of Biofeedback

I have been reading about biofeedback. It actually seems pretty amazing. Biofeedback training can be used to help people improve their own health. The basic premise is to use signals from your own body to make physical changes. Biofeedback can be used to help regain movement in paralyzed muscles, ease tension, and deal with pain.
A very simple example of biofeedback is using a thermometer. You use the results from the thermometer to decide how to treat yourself. If you use a thermometer and realize that you have a fever, you may decide to rest and drink plenty of water and juice.
Doctors and therapist use biofeedback equipment to monitor a person’s bodily functions. This information is valuable for treatment. Biofeedback allows patients to see what is going on in their own bodies. If someone is using biofeedback to learn to relax, he or she may use a machine that monitors electrical signals in the muscles. The results from this machine can be used to help the patient to determine when the muscles are relaxed and when the muscles begin to tense up. Biofeedback can help a patient not only see if specific treatments are working but also start controlling their own muscle tension.
I think that biofeedback could be very helpful in treating anxiety, stress, migraines, tension headaches, and muscle pain. This could be a great alternative for people who cannot tolerate medications or for those who want to simply avoid taking medications. As a nursing mother, I make every effort to avoid meds. Unfortunately, I also suffer from migraines and tension headaches. I am looking forward to learning more about biofeedback as a way to treat my headaches without the use of medication.
