My Home Pharmacy

My friends and family oftenmake fun of me because I have a cabinet in our kitchen that is dedicated entirely to my medicine. They call it my “pharmacy.”
The reason I have so many medications and medical supplies on hand is because I have type 1 diabetes. Even with health insurance, copays add up, and getting medication can be kind of expensive. As a result, I order 3-month prescriptions via a mail order program my health insurance company offers, and always try to keep on hand a little extra (i.e., a little beyond the three months — six months at the minimum, when I can manage it).
Of course, this means a lot of medications, which means I have to find an area large enough to hold all this stuff. That happens to be a cupboard in my kitchen, as well as one side of the bottom shelf of my fridge for the two types of insulin (which have to be refrigerated). I guess it is kind of funny to open up that cupboard and find a half-year supply of diabetes supplies, but let me tell you, you can never be too careful — especially when the darn stuff costs as much as it does!
