Different Disability Coverage from Different Providers

When comparing your insurance quotes, an important part of the comparison will be the disability insurance companies that provided the quotes to you. Though it is fair to say the majority of private disability insurance providers offer similar coverage, it is the differences in coverage that will be of prime concern to you and your family in the event that a claim becomes necessary.

Some companies will only allow you to insure a certain percentage of your income – others might not cover you in the event of developing particular diseases or accidents resulting from high-risk activities. It is just as important to know what is excluded as it is to know what is included in your long term disability insurance. Some insurance providers specialize in offering coverage to those with high-risk professions or hobbies, while others are more focused on providing own occupation disability insurance to professionals with highly specialized skills.

When comparing the coverage offered, it is also worth considering the reputation of the insurance company providing the quote. Just because a company is new or small, don’t discount their potential. Similarly, just because it is an insurance provider you’ve heard of, don’t take it for granted that the coverage is adequate or easily obtainable. You need to read the fine print – that is the key to getting the most out of your investment in any insurance policy.
