What’s Next for Credit Card Companies

Much ado has been made over the upcoming crackdown on credit that is expected to take place in the coming months. As the economy continues to struggle a little bit, banks are becoming more careful about whom they lend their dollars to. Foreclosures have caused some trouble in the market as of late, which has played a role in the decision of banks. This begs the question, what is next for credit cards (tarjetas de credito)?

In case you are wondering, that free credit card (tarjeta de credito gratis) offer you got in the mail last Thursday is probably still good, but it might not be for long. If you don’t have good credit, you might find yourself in a position where it is tough to get a small loan like a credit card.

Lenders are tired of people with open bank accounts (abrir cuentas bancaria) not being able to make payments out of those accounts. They are tired of folks who should have been able to make a payment having to reach into their bank accounts only to see that there is nothing there. There does not really even seem to be an end in sight, either. As long as the economy is struggling like it is right now, there are not going to be many credit card companies willing to loan out their credit lines to people who may or may not be able to pay.
