Ways to Save Money on a Wedding

Getting married is expensive, sure. It’s supposed to be — after all, it’s one of the defining moments of your life, and therefore it makes sense to spend a little money in order to make sure it’s perfect. However, there are also ways you can cut costs here and there, to keep the essence of the day without breaking the bank to do so.
Here are a few ways you can save money:
- Do it yourself. One of the top ways you can save money is to do most of the planning, coordinating, etc. yourself. A wedding planner can be a big expense, and if you have the time and skills necessary to plan a wedding, it is a completely unnecessary expense as well!
- K.I.S.S. Keep it simple, stupid. You don’t have to have the fanciest vases, the most elaborate flower arrangements, or the most spectacular meals your guests have ever seen. In fact, if you try to do these things, most likely you’ll end up with overkill. If you are having a hard time getting your head around that, think of it this way: All of that stuff detracts from you, the bride. YOU want to be the focus of everyone’s attention, not your flowers or your decorations! The rest is just background noise.
- Make your own invitations. One of my friends did this for her wedding over the summer, and they turned out really wonderful. Making your own invitations doesn’t mean you have to use the cookie-cutter printer kits you find at Office Depot — between your imagination and tips on invitations and invitation wording available online, you can come up with some really unique, beautiful wedding invitations!
The one thing you won’t want to cut corners on is your venue. Do you want pictures of your wedding with a crappy venue in the background? Or would you rather have pictures of you and your wedding party and guests with beautiful Michigan gardens in the background? Your venue is essentially the backdrop for your wedding and all the memories that you’ll be making there, so be sure you don’t skimp in this department!
