Advantages to Working from Home

Today at the bookstore, while I was working on a client project my husband picked up a book about how to “think rich.” One of the things the author said was to own your own business or work from home whenever possible. Well, I guess at least one of us satisfies that requirement, as I work from home as a freelance writer!
The decision to freelance was probably one of the best career choices I ever made. I love working from home, for so many reasons:
- I feel more comfortable working at home
- I can eat whatever and whenever I want, and don’t spend money on lunches or coffee
- I don’t waste time or money on commuting back and forth to work
- I have a flexible schedule and can run errands during the day and work in the evening or on the weekends when necessary
Another advantage, although one I haven’t been able to justify for myself, is that you can take the home office deduction in order to reduce your tax liability. Working from home also saves you the expense of Carlsbad CA commercial real estate.
More people are becoming interested in working from home, it seems — the IRS has reported significant increases every year in the number of people reporting self-employment income and claiming the home office deduction. Clearly I’m not the only one who has noticed the many advantages to working from home!
