We Deserve Some Time in Fiji

Last year was a very bleak time for me and my husband.  I was laid off from an accounting firm where I’d been a manager for 15 years, my father was hospitalized after a massive stroke, our house was damaged by a neighborhood fire and then looted.  It just seemed like the bad luck would not let up.

I don’t think I could have coped without the love and support of my husband Burt and some close friends.  Burt has been an absolute rock.  He kept telling me he knew things would get better – he’s the optimist, I’m the pessimist.  But he was right; things are starting to look up now.  My father’s health has improved, I’m doing some contract work, and our homeowners insurance covered the damage from the fire.

Burt says it’s time we had a vacation.  He has a couple of weeks off from his work as a construction foreman, and we are going to treat ourselves to a Fiji adventure.  We started thinking about this a few months ago when things started to look up and we agreed we deserved a big break, so we after considering a few destinations, we decided to travel to Fiji and enjoy the sunshine and scenery.

My divorce became final last month.  It was an ordeal that lasted a few years, and I am really thankful we never had any kids.  In retrospect, we never should have gotten married in the first place, and it’s pretty amazing we managed to stay together for ten years when Saul and I weren’t compatible at all.

I’m also thankful we both work and still have our jobs.  It’s not like either of us depends on the other person’s income, or has gotten laid off, or anything like that.  We were nasty enough to each other without any of that stuff too.

At any rate, now that it’s over, I feel like celebrating.  I have a couple of close girlfriends who helped me through the difficult times and they suggested we buy ourselves a Fiji adventure.  It didn’t take much discussion to convince me, that’s for sure.  We looked into a great place that offered a Fiji inclusive deal.  The more we looked, the more excited we got. It’s going to be a girlfriends’ retreat.  Jen was divorced several years ago, and Marg is going though a hard time with her boyfriend, so we figure we all need to get away.  We want to try their aromatherapy and hydrotherapy treatments, for starters.
