My Coworker

Let me tell you a story.  You’re the head manager in a store that is one of many, part of a successful and busy national chain.  You’re a woman working in what is essentially a huge home improvement store, so you have some territory to stake to be taken seriously to start with.  Then, of the three other female employees you work with, one is roughly your age.  She assumes this means you two are instant and close companions.  She thinks that I’ll give her a break, and that I’ll help her slack off, which is fine, I can say no to that.  Then today she starts talking to me about her personal life like we’re two best friends.  She was telling me about things I never wanted to hear about, like the fact that our outdoor kitchen designs were her idea 100%.  She also stated the outdoor fireplaces area was her design set too.  I didn’t want to know any of it, and I didn’t have anything to say in return.  So instead, I hid behind the barbeque islands and let her think I had gone back to the office.
