Your adult child has decided that he or she wants to attend school online. You weren’t initially very excited about this because you would prefer that your child go to a traditional college. However, you’ve decided to accept your kid’s choice and want to be a part of helping to choose an online school. The first thing that you need to do is to step back for a moment. This decision should tell you something about the fact that your kid is ready to make decisions on his own. He does still need your help but the role that you play now is different than in the past. You need to let your kid take the reins with this one.

Ask your child what he wants to study online. You may find that his answer surprises you. Perhaps you never knew that he was interested in a Physician Assistant Program. Also ask him what his goals are. Maybe he’s already thinking long term and wants to look at programs that will lead into Master of Science Online Degrees or even a Doctor of Health Sciences Online Degree.Starting with where your kid is interested in starting, you can begin to offer input about which schools might be best. Help find the best family-friendly sites for researching online colleges. Give clear reasons for your opinions on different schools. In other words, be there with advice but let your child make the decisions.
