Working on Vacation

I find that one of the most difficult things about being a freelance writer is taking time off work. My laptop is on all of time except when I’m sleeping or taking it somewhere (such as to a coffe shop) with me, which makes it hard to get away from my work.
Even worse is the way I always find myself working on vacation. The only time I’ve really not worked at all was when my husband and I went on our honeymoon. I didn’t even take my computer with me, which made me feel like an amputee or something the entire time. I even worked a little bit in Europe — I couldn’t do much work, because I took an outdated handheld laptop that lacked wireless capabilities, but I did do some.
My brother-in-law has talked about looking into Canadian Rockies vacations for the entire family, and honestly I don’t know how I’d survive. I don’t have a problem with roughing it — I used to love going camping, and I’m a horse girl who loves to spend time outside at the barn — but I can’t even imagine going without WiFi for a whole week, let alone power! I doubt I can leave my work for that long, so if they are going to plan a vacation to Canada, they’d better look at Canada vacation packages that are a bit more civilized!
