Sales Time: Sifting for Store Merchandise

In preparation for the opening of her store on Main Street, Mary searches the woods on the edge of town. Having a store that sells Earth science and geology-based merchandise of course requires having some rocks to sell. She’d been shopping around for some rock screens over the past week when her neighbor finally said that she could use his portable screener. Mary could now search for different kinds of rocks and separate them from the sandy soil in the area, without having to clean them by hand. The different kinds of rocks in the area, from igneous rocks formed from ancient volcanic deposits, to the sedimentary rocks common in the region, would now be almost ready for her to represent in her store.
It would also take a gravel screening machine to sort out other things that Mary wasn’t looking for. People had been trekking through the woods near town for a long time. Left behind has been garbage buried in the soil over time, and bugs and plant matter wouldn’t remain fresh long enough to sell. Fresh rock samples, which could then be cleaned and polished, could be sold in Mary’s store to children as well as to teachers working at the town’s schools.
