One of the hardest things for most people to do is to when searching for a job is not to put out the resumes, or even to find the places they want to give the resumes to, but rather it is the interview . This is because most people are not sales people. The sales person who lives it knows that first and foremost you have to be willing to sell yourself. That is why taking a job at someplace like Southwestern Company is important for all young people who have not had a proper job interview before.

The best thing about this job is that there is minimal interview before hand, and there is sales training before you are expected to go out into the field. This means that they teach you as many of the skills as they can before letting you go out and learning the rest of it the hard way. That isn’t the worst way to learn everything though. The truth is that getting out there and selling every day off of a cold call can really teach kids how to interview for jobs later on. Knocking on doors means that you have to sell yourself , the company and the product all at once, mostly to people who are not interested. That is often the basics of selling yourself in an interview as well.

If you can’t take a job from Southwestern Company for one reason or another, because there are reasons not to leave your state and travel while doing direct sales, there are other sales jobs that young college students can take so that they may learn these skills. These usually require some degree of ability to interview already, or some kind of social network, but that is not always hard to come by. You also may not get the sales training before being thrown into the fire. All this means is that you will learn on the floor how to sell. While it will be hard, it will teach you the basic interview skills as well.

Learning to sell yourself is the hardest part. That and being able to accept rejection. The earlier you learn these skills the better!
