car-1If you are thinking about getting a Las Vegas rental car, you will be offered different types of insurance.  One is a collision damage waiver (CDW).  A CDW cover you in the event of a collision.  The second type is a loss damage waiver or LDW.  A LDW covers any type of loss to the rental car company.  It is a good idea to have both types of coverage.  However, make sure that your own insurance policy does not already cover any of these areas.  There is no point is paying for duplicate coverage.  Many policies offer liability coverage.  This will protect you if you hurt someone in the course of an accident.  Some insurance policies also cover rental car damage under the collision and comprehensive coverage.  Call your insurance agent to find out if your policy covers rental cars before going to the rental company.  You should also be aware that some credit card providers offer coverage if you sign of for a rental car using your credit card.  Check with the credit card company ahead of time.

One thing to keep in mind is that the collision damage waiver covers loss of use.  This is a fee that the rental car company charges in order to cover income that is lost when a rental car is out of service.  If you get a rental car in Las Vegas, check to see if your auto insurance covers this because it does not in most states.  This means that, if you are in an accident in the rental car, you may have to pay for the loss of use fee out of pocket.
